Cake by Post: Review and Giveaway

When I was approached by Baker Days asking if I’d like to review one of their cakes by post, my first thought was, ‘CAAAKE!!!’ It’s one of the most exciting things that has happened to me since I started blogging 5 months ago! I’ll also be giving away a letterbox cake to one lucky reader, check out the Gleam widget at the end of this review.

There are loads of different Christmas designs available to suit all tastes (I’m very tempted to get the really cute ‘baby’s first Christmas’ one for my brother and sister-in-law!). I love that the cakes can be personalised with your text and pictures.

T has recently become a little obsessed with Minions. It must have been the word that he learnt to say quickest- he literally heard it once and now points at anything minion-related and says ‘minions’ in the cutest little voice! So, I had to get us the ‘Santa’s little minions’ cake.

We chose the vanilla sponge, but it’s also available in chocolate chip or fruit cake. There are gluten- and dairy-free options available too.

The sizes vary from the letterbox cake (3-4 portions) to a large party cake (40-55 portions). Prices start at £14.99 for the letterbox cake, which I can confirm really is a letterbox cake as I was at work all day and came home to find my cake had been posted through the letterbox!

Inside the sturdy box was a cute tin with my personalised cake inside. There were also some nice extras included: candles, balloons and a party blower.

Cake by Post TinThe cake was flatter than an average cake as it needs to be shallow enough to fit through the letterbox. This means there is a high icing to cake ratio, which to me is no bad thing because I love icing! Despite this I didn’t find it sickly sweet. There was no jam or buttercream in the middle of the cake, although there was a little buttercream at the bottom to fix it to the board. The cake was lovely and moist and apparently stays fresh for 14 days, although there was no risk of ours staying around for that long.

That was my first visit to the Baker Days website and I was amazed. The cakes look fab- what a choice. I think I’d choose Jolly Owls but could easily give you a long list of lovely designs. Great to read a review by the way

My other half hasn’t embraced the Christmas Spirit this year so I would like the Disturbing Lack of Cheer cake 🙂
